Orchestra Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nations. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to all First Nations people across Australia, whose traditions of music making and storytelling have continued on this land for millenia.
Welcome to our new home in North Melbourne, the Blackwood Box at the Meat Market. We’re so pleased to invite you into our new performance format, and hope that you feel welcomed at all stages of tonight’s concert experience. Tonight, would not be possible without our generous philanthropic community, and our government partners, Creative Australia and Creative Victoria. I must also give a special additional thanks to Creative Victoria for their investment in the Blackwood Box, creating a home for Orchestra Victoria for the next 5 years.
Enjoy tonight with a gin in hand, from our Meet @ the Market partner, Brogan Ways Gin, grab a slider, and enjoy classical music in a brand new format.
Jacinta Ewers
Chief Executive Officer
Welcome to Session 1, the very first Meet @ the Market concert by Orchestra Victoria, in our new home in North Melbourne. This exciting program brings together a stunning array of works that bridge classical tradition with innovative voices, in our new relaxed presentation. Tonight, we celebrate the timeless brilliance of Mozart and Mendelssohn, paired with works by two contemporary Australian composers, Joe Chindamo and Maria Grenfell. Lyric Refractions promises a dynamic exploration of music that reflects both the past and the present, blending lyricism with experimental flair.
As Artistic Advisor, it’s a pleasure to see this unique collaboration come to life in our new space, supported by our inaugural Meet @ the Market partners, Brogan’s Way Gin. This partnership adds another layer of connection, bringing together the artistry of music and local craftsmanship in a truly special way.
We hope you enjoy this evening's journey of discovery and musical expression.

In the upcoming season, we celebrate this unique capacity through a range of partnerships, but most proudly with our Southbank Series and new initiative, Meet @ the Market, programs that place our musicians front and centre. Here, our tradition charts a new course with a diverse concert repertoire, exploring stories both timeless and contemporary, and featuring works beyond our core opera and ballet repertoire.
Season 2025 celebrates all that we bring to the Victorian landscape, underscoring our role in enriching cultural experiences for audiences across our state.
