Dafydd Camp
Principal Cor Anglais
About Dafydd
A Melbourne local, Dafydd Camp has played a variety of musical instruments since the age of three. He finally settled on the oboe in high school, and in his teens fell in love with the cor anglais after hearing a performance of Dvořák’s New World Symphony. He studied at the University of Melbourne, with postgraduate studies at the University of Tasmania, and the Australian National Academy of Music, with teachers including Anne Gilby, Stephen Robinson, David Nuttall and Jeffrey Crellin. Dafydd has performed with the Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, was Acting Principal Cor Anglais of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2012, and has written for and presented at the Australian Double Reed Society conference. Dafydd has been the Principal Cor Anglais for Orchestra Victoria since 2013, his musical highlights being the two seasons of Wagner's The Ring Cycle undertaken during his time. He is also a keen educator, being a teacher and examiner at The University of Melbourne and Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. After a day of rehearsals, Dafydd likes to wind down with his Nintendo Switch and an iced latté.
Dafydd Camp's Principal Cor Anglais position is generously supported by Ms Linda Herd.
