Mark Fitzpatrick
Section Principal Trumpet
About Mark
At the age of ten, Melbourne-born Section Principal Trumpet Mark Fitzpatrick was given the choice between playing cornet or violin. Since his mother couldn’t bear the sound of a beginner violin, he chose the cornet, which led to him taking up the trumpet at the age of 16. He attended the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School and went on to graduate from the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts. He has played with Orchestra Victoria, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, as well as Norway’s Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. He has toured New Zealand with various brass bands and taught trumpet at the University of Auckland. He currently teaches at the University of Melbourne.
